Part 4: Delivery Day

With an impressive 3.5m in width, the Zinc Studio Cabin allows for up to 50% more living space when compared to similarly priced tiny-homes and prefab cabins on the market. Liveability, accessibility, and inviting openness of our cabins was a core design principle – because tiny homes shouldn’t feel tiny, and all people of every age, gender, and ableness should be able to realise their dreams! With the generous dimensions in mind, we have partnered with the very trustworthy folks at Clements Haulage, who have over 3 decades of tiny-home and cabin delivery experience.

Delivery Day - From Truck to Tow Trailer

Delivered on the back of a flat-bed truck, it’s always quite a magical experience seeing the Zinc Studio Cabin arriving in all her majestic glory – especially on a clear and sunny morning such as this.

Upon arrival, the delivery truck and team will take the cabin as close as possible to the prepared installation site, and then carefully detach the low-loading trailer from the truck cab. Once detached, the Clements specialists will start the calculated process of lowering the off-ramp and included all-terrain tractor using an elegant system of hydraulics. With a very low angled off-ramp, the cabin can be slowly drawn off the trailer and steadily towed to the installation site to begin the next exciting steps.

Installation

With the tractor, trailer and cabin now resting adjacent to the cabin’s installation site, the Clements Haulage team and trusted local contractors work in unison to position the cabin over the pre-dug holes.

Once in place, all the adjustable legs, made from galvanised steel, can be attached to the cabin before the final step: a concrete pour into each hole for extra structural integrity and durability against Australia’s rather temperamental climate! (Note: generally the foot holes do not need to be nearly this big, but due to some surprise rocks in the ground, our dimensions blew out rather quickly!)

After the concrete has begun to set, a simple turn of the bolt on the adjustable legs makes sure the cabin is level and ready to go. Given it's adjustability, the cabin can be installed in a variety of locations with a range of preparedness – meaning, not every site needs to be perfectly levelled with any foundations like concrete slabs. Remember: the Zinc Studio Cabin has been designed to be moved!

Now the final touches can be made. Depending on the specifications of the Zinc Cabin, this might be linking up utilities and sewerage, connecting off-grid systems, building and securing a gorgeous timber deck, cross-checking and readying the composting system, setting-up all soft-furnishings, or – maybe the best part – the interior decorating!

One of Australia’s greatest strengths is the incredible array of environments, climates, terrains, and landscapes, which means that each installation will likely be somewhat different from the next, but rest assured, we’re here to help! Hurdles are there to be leapt, and with careful and collaborative conversations and preparations, each installation can be as fun as the last.
