Interior Ply

For the interior of the Zinc Studio cabin we have chosen to use a high quality plywood. It is a material that can be finished multiple different ways. These pictures have been shot before a whitewash finish is applied to give it a slightly lighter look.

Not only does does ply look great and give the cabin a warm, raw and natural feel, but offers a range of other benefits, including:

Durability: Good quality plywood is designed to withstand wear and tear, making it a long-lasting option for interior cladding. It is less prone to warping, cracking, or splitting, ensuring that the cabin's interior remains in excellent condition for years to come.

Strength and Stability: High-quality plywood is manufactured using multiple layers of wood veneers, bonded together with strong adhesives. This construction makes it structurally robust, providing excellent strength and stability to the interior cladding. It can withstand impacts and resist bending or sagging.

Moisture Resistance: Plywood made with waterproof glue and proper sealing techniques is highly resistant to moisture. This is especially important in cabins where humidity levels may be higher due to the proximity to nature or potential temperature fluctuations. Moisture-resistant plywood helps prevent damage from moisture-related issues like mold, mildew, and warping.

Insulation: Plywood acts as an additional layer of insulation for the cabin's interior. It helps to regulate temperature and reduce heat loss, providing better energy efficiency and potentially reducing heating or cooling costs.

Easy Installation: High-quality plywood is also relatively easy to install compared to other cladding options. It is lightweight, making it easier to handle and maneuver during the installation process. With proper planning and techniques, plywood can be quickly and efficiently installed, saving time and labour costs.

Sound Dampening: Plywood has natural sound-dampening properties, which can help reduce noise transmission within the cabin. This is particularly beneficial in small cabins where minimising noise and maintaining a peaceful environment are desired.

Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly: Plywood is often made from sustainably harvested timber and is considered a renewable resource. By choosing high-quality plywood from responsible sources, you can contribute to environmental conservation and promote sustainable building practices.

Cost-Effective: Plywood is generally more affordable compared to solid wood or other cladding materials, especially when considering its durability and long lifespan. It offers excellent value for money and can be a cost-effective option for interior cladding in a small cabin.

Choosing high-quality plywood for interior cladding greatly enhances both the aesthetics and functionality of the space. By investing in well-crafted plywood, you can create a warm and inviting interior that stands the test of time. Not just a practical choice, but a sustainable and cost conscious one.

This stage of the build process is always satisfying as we see the interior space come to life, getting a feel for the dimensions but also the colour palette and details to come.

Join us next week for Part 4 of our series where we take a look at insulation, utilities, cabling and getting the cabin ready for the final piece: exterior cladding.
